And why, oh, why did Sweden create Basshunter???? I have been hearing it ever since I arrived here in the Netherlands...

it could be worse... our top 10 is currently:
Rihanna - Umbrella

Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry
Maroon 5 - Makes Me Wonder
Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah
Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend
Justin Timberlake - Summer Love
Huey - Pop, Lock & Drop It
Amy Winehouse - Rehab
Um, yikes... Amy Winehouse is good... but yikes.

So who's going to watch you die?"
Well.. what can we say? We're great music-creators end producers, allthough we have different taste.

Well, Sweden is not just about great music... If you think Basshunter is bad you should check out these examples of the chart topping swedish music:
Dr Bombay - Calcutta
Günther - Teeny weeny string bikini
It is nigh impossible to be successful commercially if you sing in your native language, at least in the states and the UK where the movers and shakers reside. Not saying it is right but it is the harsh reality. Notable exceptions include Sigur Ros but they are only the exception that confirms the rule.

There are quite a few more exceptions: Rammstein, Falco & Nena all reached top chart positions in the U.S. and the U.K. singing in German. Dungen had a successful U.S. tour last year singing only in Swedish. And of course there are countless Spanish acts in the U.S. and U.K. charts...![]()
I meant long term success which any of these bands can not claim (even Sigur Ros to be honest), maybe Dungen at a stretch...
Swedish/German/Any foreign bands that have made a lasting impression either had no lyrics or were singing in English. After that, we will probably have to define what long-term success means...
Rammstein, yes, but it is a very niche market really.

Need to try and avoid that bloody Markoolio song that's on the radio here, it's driving me nuts!
Well, Spanish doesn't really count, does it? I mean, it's one of the most spoken languages of the world, and probably the second most common one in the USAPeople are used to Spanish lyrics. I wish they were used to Swedish ones as well ;_;
...and the Italian top five sucks too. I guess it's a worldwide problem.
jag har lärt mig av dig alla öden är värre än döden
Anyway i'm sorry to say I nearly didn't hear anything good from Sweden in 2007, except for Johnossi, they rock in my opinion. Usually there were at least 4 or 5 good new acts every year from Sweden. Is it me that missed them or are they really missing this year?
Gulo Gulo lover forever!
